Institute of Health and Social Work

The Institute of Health and Social Work (IHSW) is a USB HSSF workplace which implements a number of activities through its centers. The activities of the IHSW centers include the professional practice of students, research and publication activities, consulting, motivational activities, awareness and educational activities, organizing one-off and regular activities, organizing weekend events etc.

USB HSSF students participate in the activities of the individual centers in the context of professional practice and can also participate as volunteers, and gain practical experience in the field of social work and health and social issues.

Apart from professional practice, the active involvement of students in the activities of the IHSW centers also allow them to acquire and process data for their bachelor's, master's and dissertation theses on the basis of the practical experience of students and develop student publication and project activities.

The Institute of Social Work of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice has been in existence since 1998. In 2007 there was an organizational change that involved the exclusion of the ISW from the Department of Supervision and Professional Practice of USB HSSF and the inclusion of the ISW in the organizational structure of USB HSSF as a separate workplace on the department level under the title Institute of Social Work (ISW). Thanks to changes in the organizational structure of HSSF with effect from 1 March 2011, the Institute of Social Work was renamed the Institute of Health and Social Work (IHSW).

The expert guarantor of IHSW research is prof. MUDr. Miloš Velemínský, CSc., dr. h. c. There are currently 3 centers under IHSW: The Center for the Prevention of Civilization Diseases; the Senior Center and the Physiotherapy Center.
